In brief The latest round of the government's Clever Networks funding will see a AU$4.5 million grant given to a Northern Territory satellite broadband scheme.
The funding has been awarded to the SkyConnect satellite network, which will increase bandwidth to NT educational institutions and health clinics and enable remote health and education applications.
The SkyConnect network will take in 54 schools, 24 health clinics, 16 Charles Darwin University vocational education centres and 160 School of the Air sites.
The project will provide better Web links between School of the Air teachers and students and a distance-learning lab at the University.
The SkyConnect network is also expected to usher in e-health, with medical specialists able to take part in diagnosis and treatment of patients in remote communities using videoconferencing.
