AIMIA starts campaign for creativity on mobile devices

The Australian Interactive Media Industry Association (AIMIA) has launched a national initiative aimed at exploring the potential of mobile devices.

The AIMIA project, named "Mobile Journeys", will roll out a programme of events through January and February 2005. These include the FutureScreen Mobile and miniSeries Master Classes in mobile content development for artists and creatives, community workshops and professional forums in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.

Esther Bailey, Mobile Journeys project director and AIMIA board member, is expecting a significant shift from pure voice to voice and data consumption in the next couple of years.

"Currently, a lot of the mobile content out there is pretty utilitarian. Our intention with Mobile Journeys is to demystify the creation process and encourage our best and brightest minds to start working and playing with mobile," Bailey said.

Work created through this program will be showcased online at www.mobilejourneys.com and through a WAP site specifically designed for the Mobile Journeys program. There are also plans for real world exhibitions later in 2005.

Bailey said Mobile Journeys will go beyond simple content outcomes "as it explores new narrative forms and models of collaboration".

Partners of the initiative include the Australia Council, ABC New Media and Digital Services, dlux media arts, ANAT, mNet Corporation, Adelaide Film Festival 2005 and the South Australian Film Corporation.

Hey Dumb Art Grant... I don't see any mention of government money in the story here. Infact, looking at the AIMIA website, it's not a government funded thing at all. What gives with your comment?!? Maybe you should know what you're talking about before you commit fingers to the keyboard?
