in brief Wireless Internet service provider Unwired has launched an online fax service in a bid for more small business customers.

The uFax service allows customers to send and receive faxes without using a phone line.

"Unwired's uFax service will give consumers and [small office/home office] owners the ability to run their business without a traditional fax machine, effectively making the phone line into the home or office redundant," said Unwired chief executive David Spence in a statement issued this morning.

The company also launched SMS and text-to-voice services as part of its small business pitch. The SMS messages can be sent to any phone number in the world, while the text-to-voice messages can be sent to any national number. Unwired currently only offers coverage in Sydney and Melbourne. The new services are provided via Sydney-based messaging provider Newsnet.
