in brief Welfare agency Centrelink, in conjunction with the federal Department of Family and Community Services, has renewed a telephony contract with Telstra to the tune of AU$31 million.

The two signed the three-year renewal on Wednesday this week, a Centrelink spokesperson confirmed in an e-mail to ZDNet Australia this afternoon.

The contract covers outbound telephone calls and mobile services, and was initially signed back in December 2003 after Telstra won an open tender process. The extension will cover the period up until August 2009.

The news comes as Telstra rival Optus yesterday revealed a number of new enterprise customer wins in its quarterly financial results session.
