Business-focused telco People Telecom has started connecting some new customers to high-speed ADSL2+ broadband services but is still ironing out the migration process for existing patrons. The ADSL2+ services at speeds of up to 24Mbps are being provided on the back of an agreement announced in January that is seeing People use the broadband infrastructure of NEC Australia's NEXTEP division. Until now People Telecom has primarily resold Telstra's wholesale DSL offerings, which the giant limits to 1.5Mbps under the ADSL1 standard. People Telecom's chief executive Ryan O'Hare told ZDNet Australia via e-mail his company was mainly offering the higher-speed services to new customers so far. The telco is ironing out the process whereby existing customers are migrated from Telstra's infrastructure to the NEXTEP hardware, with some delays believed to be coming from Telstra's end. However O'Hare said he hoped a more solid migration will soon commence. In February, People Telecom said it had 34,000 ADSL broadband customers, with a further 1,500 signing up each month.
