A power failure at a Sydney exchange left Optus customers without e-mail access last night, and many cut off from Internet services altogether.

The exchange went down at 5:33pm (AEDT) yesterday, according to Optus. OptusNet e-mail services around the country were then disrupted until 11:50pm, when normal service was restored.

Optus dial-up and broadband customers may also have had difficulty connecting to the Internet for about 30 minutes after the exchange failure, according to Optus. Internet customers in NSW, ACT and Queensland were affected.
