Internet service provider Chariot has announced it is rolling out a wireless broadband network across Adelaide, with most areas of the city to be covered within two months. The 3Mbps service operates over line-of-sight tower antennae connections, deployed at sites around the city. These provide access within a radius of up to 25-30 kilometres. Chariot said customers in Adelaide's eastern suburbs and hills areas had already been using the service, while those in the north and south of the CBD would gain coverage in two months. "We have registrations of interest from nearly 1,000 potential wireless broadband customers in Adelaide and expect this interest to escalate as our existing dial-up and broadband subscribers move up," said Chariot managing director Robert Horlin-Smith. The company launched a similar service in Victoria last month. Chariot said it would later boost the speed of the Adelaide network to 13Mbps and would offer Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services. The launch follows Chariot's acquisition of Melbourne-based wireless infrastructure provider Omninet Wireless last year.
