Pacific adds Optus DSL to list

Internet service provider (ISP) Pacific Internet has added Optus to its list of DSL wholesalers, citing increased demand for its high-availability business plans.

The company said in a statement the deal would expand its geographic reach by 45 percent, expanding the availability of its business-oriented offerings.

It would also continue to use its existing wholesaler NEC NEXTEP, a division of NEC Australia.

"Customers' site locations together with their speed and contention ratio selections determine which wholesaler's network is used," the ISP said in a statement. Contention refers to the ratio of DSL customers per upstream network connection from a telephone exchange.

Pacific's Premium DSL plans offer speeds of up to 6Mbps, with a service level agreement of up to 99.9 percent. However, they only offer customers 10GB of included data for a monthly cost starting from AU$269.

Pacific's Australian managing director Dennis Muscat said his company had experienced a 40 percent increase in uptake of the premium plans over the last 12 months.
