Optus boosts SA broadband for businesses

Optus has announced a AU$5 million investment for its business broadband and telecommunication infrastructure in South Australia.

Paul Fletcher, Optus director of corporate and regulatory affairs, said the "distinct lack of access to competitive business broadband" in many parts of South Australia has driven them to commit to the telco infrastructure.

The telecommunications company is currently holding a series of meetings with local councils and state governments to present its plans to deliver increased Internet bandwidth and competitive telecommunications pricing to businesses in South Australia.

Fletcher also said they are planning to extend Optus' fibre optic network through metropolitan Adelaide by up to 100km "providing competitive voice and high speed data services to more than 400 South Australian businesses".

The move, Fletcher said, goes hand in hand with the state government's plans to support the installation of broadband infrastructure to "provide better Internet access to businesses to increase competition".
