Optus today launched a package for the consumer and small business market that combined a Blackberry wireless e-mail offering with voice and mobile text messaging.

The new offering bundles the Blackberry with an AU$99 capped payment plan that includes AU$500 worth of voice and text services and up to 50MB of data. The telecommunications company said other plans were available for customers with lower voice, text and data useage.

Allen Lew, the managing director of Optus Mobile, said mobile e-mail was in demand by consumers and small businesses as well as large corporates.

At launch, the Blackberry service is available on several Blackberry and Blackberry-enabled devices, including the Blackberry 7100g, Blackberry 7290, Blackberry 7730, Nokia 6820 and Siemens SK65. Optus users can access up to 10 corporate or personal e-mail accounts.
