Telstra launches CDMA "walkie-talkie" mobiles By AAP December 16, 2004 URL: http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/communications/soa/Telstra-launches-CDMA-walkie-talkie-mobiles/0,130061791,139174427,00.htm
Telstra has launched its Push To Talk service, which allows mobile phones to be used as walkie-talkies, on its CDMA network. Following the introduction of Push To Talk on the GSM mobile network last June, Telstra said the service will now be available to more than 98 per cent of Australia's population with the inclusion of a CDMA service - which extends into rural and outback areas as well as cities. Customers wishing to use the service must buy a compatible handset and the service will initially be priced at AU$50 a month for unlimited use. A pay-as-you-go option is planned for next year, as is compatibility between the currently separate GSM and CDMA-based services.
