Yahoo signs Web hosting deal with Destra

Yahoo Australia and New Zealand signed an exclusive partnership today with Australian Digital Rights Management provider Destra Corporation to reach into the small-to-medium enterprise market in both countries.

Destra chief executive officer Domenic Carosa said the new co-branded service utilising Destra's OzHosting.com business will solve the problem for SMEs dealing with multiple vendors.

"There is a significant opportunity in the market for the provision of integrated web services for SMEs. In a consolidating market, Yahoo! and Destra have brokered an agreement that solves the problem for SMEs dealing with multiple vendors," said Carosa.

The partnership, which will be marketed under a new co-branded mark, will see that both companies strengthen their position in the SME marketplace.

Destra is the third company in the world to sign up a Web hosting deal with Yahoo. The other two are British Telecom and United States' ISP SBC. Carosa says Web hosting is just the start of the new partnership. "They are looking for the right entrepreneur to help them expand into the Asia Pacific and they think that we are the right company to help them on this," Carosa says.

The initial deal will focus mainly on Australia and New Zealand, but Carosa says there is certainly a view to expand to the Asian marketplace. "This is just the first plank to a much larger relationship with Yahoo and we are looking forward to this," Carosa adds.

The new partnership will grab a significant line share of the hosting market which will create new revenue for both companies. -In the branding perspective, our hosting brand will be the most recognisable brand not just in Australia but also globally as part of the global strategy," Carosa told ZDNet Australia.

"Destra and Yahoo! have common objectives in servicing the SME sector," said Yahoo! Australia and NZ managing director, Cliff Rosenberg.

"Destra's specific expertise in Web hosting matched with Yahoo!'s SME product range and marketing capability provides a complete service for SME customers wishing to either get online for the first time or to expand their existing Web capabilities," Rosenberg adds.

Products tailored for the Australian market will become available at www.smallbusiness.yahoo.com.au and www.ozhosting.com.
