It was bound to happen. Yahoo is now in the business-to-business e-marketplace game.

Yahoo has announced Yahoo Industry Marketplaces with the launch of separate marketplaces for electronics, IT software and IT hardware.

"Millions of business purchase decision makers are already are using Yahoo to search the Internet for industry news, gather information and purchase products," said Shannon Ledger, Yahoo's VP and general manager of production in a prepared statement. "Highly focused business destinations around key areas, such as hardware, software and electronics, are the next logical step for us to better serve those users and add more depth to our business services. We designed the marketplaces for professionals who need the most relevant and up-to-date information quickly and in a format that is easy to use."

Yahoo is working with several partners on each marketplace, which offer a combination of content and procurement services.

The Electronics Marketplace Resource Center, for example, features a procurement site co-branded with USBid, a news feed from Cahners Business Information and a products database from Thomas Register. The IT Software Marketplaces Resource Center includes a directory of product and vendor information from KnowledgeStorm, a site co-branded with Bitpipe, a syndicator of professional literature on the Internet, and content from International Data Group.
