Microsoft began a promotion in the US on Monday, offering a full-cost rebate on the DVD Playback kit when purchased at the same time as the Xbox console.
Earlier this year, Microsoft received criticism when it was revealed that in order to use the DVD capabilities of the Xbox, consumers would have to purchase a remote control for AU$50.
However, the Australian operation has no intention of offering a rebate on this kit, as part of its promotional activities. Rather, the division has developed a bundle to be promoted locally.
The bundle, known as the Halo Combat Pack, went on sale on Friday and offers the console, game and DVD remote control for AU$399, the regular price of an Xbox console.
-The retail response on the weekend was just amazing," an Xbox Australia spokesperson told ZDNet Australia. -Bundles really sell well in the Australian market...they've been proven to excite consumers."
The US promotion, a US$30 rebate covering the cost of the DVD Playback kit, will run until November 2, while the Australian promotion will run while stocks last.
