The co-sourcing agreement will see both Accenture and Woodside provide staff and expertise to the centre, which will develop and support an SAP system for Woodside and third party companies.
"We'll be developing systems to meet that specific [market] need," Accenture partner Peter Moore told ZDNet Australia. "[The other companies] will primarily be in the industry, oil and gas companies upstream from Woodside in the Asia Pacific region."
According to Moore companies with IT systems are looking for more effective ways to maintain them. "Outsourcing or co-sourcing is a good way to bring in external expertise to achieve those objectives." The centre employs around 40 Perth-based IT professionals.
"This is an exciting day for Woodside as this agreement will transform the way we approach our SAP management capability needs. It will increase our operational efficiency and reduce our operational costs and will provide similar opportunities for other customers of the Centre of Excellence," said Andrew Maiden, Woodside's director of shared services.
