Vodafone Australia confirms call centre closure

Vodafone has confirmed that it will close its Mulgrave, Victoria call centre in 2003 when the lease on the property expires.

The move will see 155 staff lose their positions, but Vodafone has assured them that no changes will take place before August next year.

"We will be investigating redeployment opportunities for all 155 staff at the Mulgrave centre," Vodafone Australia's managing director Grahame Maher said in a statement. Vodafone also claimed that staff would be able to share their ideas on the creation of a transition plan throughout October and November, which should be developed by December this year.

Staff who chose not to redeploy will be offered redundancy, and Vodafone claimed they will receive entitlements above award positions.

The decision to close the centre was based on a number of factors, according to Vodafone, including many customers opting for self-service solutions and a purpose built call centre in Hobart.
