State Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Marsha Thomson, said the government will provide up to four annual grants as part of its Next Wave Program.
"The Next Wave Program is based on our highly successful computer game industry strategies, Game Plan and Game Plan: The Next Level, which helped nurture a small, growing industry into a globally recognised cluster of excellence," Thomson said.
"Using the Game Plan approach, the Next Wave Program will provide strategic support to transform emerging markets into genuine clusters of excellence in their own right."
According to Thomson, the government would work with industry to identify the next cluster of excellence.
"Project funding will be available for a range of activities including research and development, business planning, trade fairs and conferences, or to develop marketing material," she said.
The Next Wave Program is part of the government's 10-year ICT plan, titled Growing Tomorrow's Industries Today, which outlines four clusters of excellence -- telecommunications, creative content, interactive applications and specialist ICT manufacturing.
The program is designed to identify and develop future clusters.
