RailCorp's general manager of information technology delivery Henry Tan has been appointed chief information officer of electricity utility TransGrid.

Tan is due to start his new CIO role on 11 May, according to an email seen by ZDNet.com.au. A spokesperson for TransGrid confirmed the appointment.

TransGrid has been on the search for a replacement to former CIO Gordon Dunsford since December last year, when he took up a position as general manager of systems, technology and operations at Canberra telco TransACT — a key bidder for the federal government's National Broadband Network process that was ditched this week.

Tan comes to TransGrid with 15 years experience in leadership technology roles including as chief information officer at Rail Infrastructure Corporation and former state enterprise Rail Access Corporation.

TransGrid's IT department had significantly expanded during the course of Dunsford's tenure, leaving Tan with around 25 staff and a capital expenditure budget, as at December last year, of $100 million.

Dunsford had replaced TransGrid's previous CIO Toney Meeham who had been promoted to chief financial officer of the organisation under an executive reshuffle.
