Transgrid attracts new CIO

in brief NSW electricity wholesaler TransGrid has nabbed an IT executive from the state's Department of Community Services (DoCS) to be its new chief information officer.

TransGrid -- which owns and operates the NSW electricity network, and has around 1,000 employees -- advertised the CIO position in late January, after incumbent Tony Meehan moved to another position within the statutory authority.

Speaking with ZDNet Australia this afternoon, a TransGrid spokesperson said DoCS' Gordon Dunsford would start at TransGrid on 7 May. Dunsford could not be contacted by press time, and further information about the executive's background was not immediately available.

Dunsford will report to TransGrid's general manager, Human Resources and Business Services, Paul Phillips. One of the executive's key responsibilities will be to manage TransGrid's relationship with its IT services outsourcer, Brisbane-based Mincom.
