The HP OpenView Venture line is based on a packaging of OpenView Network Node Manager and OpenView Customer Views network monitoring and reporting tools. The duo uses advanced correlation algorithms to model customer traffic, allowing service providers to create performance reports specific to each customer.
Data on customer services such as electronic messaging, applications, network bandwidth and routing is correlated to model customer traffic, according to Tom Major, general manager of the OpenView Service >P> Provider unit, in Colorado. The software is combined on an OpenView Venture foundation that allows third-party developers to create and plug in modules that collect business-centric data that is specific to the user and apply a common look and feel for the presentation of the data within a single window. Third-party developers working to create modules with the foundation include BEA Systems, Keynote Systems and WebTrends.
"The value to the service provider's end customer is that they get real-time analysis of what's going on, so they can gain back confidence in their decision to outsource something as important as their Web site," said Bill Piwonka, product line manager at WebTrends, in Portland, Oregon.
Pricing for the modules, which are due along with the foundation this summer, has not yet been set. HP also put together packages of its OpenView tools, including the OpenView VantagePoint Internet Services package, which allows service providers to monitor and manage common Web services, such as HTTP, secure HTTP, mail, directory and name services, and report on service-level agreements. The package is due on Windows NT and HP-UX May 1 and on Solaris in June. Pricing has not been set. HP can be reached at www.openview.hp.com
