St George blames "backend" probs for online slow-down

St George Bank is placing the blame on its backend for customers experiencing slow response times with its Internet banking service this morning.

ZDNet Australia was contacted by a reader who alleged they were having problems accessing the bank's Internet banking service.

Manoj Sharma, business manager for payment systems at St George Bank, denies that customers were unable to access its Internet banking. He described it as -a minor problem on the backend", which he estimated lasted for about an hour this morning.

-It was basically because of some heavy load." Sharma said. -Some people may have had a slow response."

Sharma said that if a customer was getting an error message telling them to try again later it was because the customer had got a slow response and the service had -timed out".

Windows: Why performance is so ...Anon-e-mouse -- 23/05/02

Windows: Why performance is so poor!

    Check for yourself:

    http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph/?mode_u=off&mode_w=on&site=www.stgeorge.com.au&submit=Examine

"The site www.stgeorge.com.au is running Microsoft-IIS/4.0 on NT4"

And Microsoft keeps telling us their platforms will one day be robust, high performance and secure. At least they _used_ to be cheap! But not any more...

Makes me feel like a doofus for believing them all these years ;-(

It would be great for someone to give them some decent competition. Perhaps then they will actually treat us customers with more respect?

    Itis 9.58pm Monday 27/5/02 and ...Anonymous -- 27/05/02

Itis 9.58pm Monday 27/5/02 and I have been trying for over an hour. Also on Friday, 24/5/02, after over an hour I gave up. This afternoon ... I could not do any TELEPHONE banking.

Maybe St George should have kept to their previous site.
