Speculation rife of imminent Spike closure

Rumours are rife throughout the local IT industry that multi-media communications company Spike, an arm of Spike Networks, is set to announce its closure.

ZDNet Australia has been told by a reliable source, who wishes to remain anonymous, that speculation is high that Spike executives have told staff that their jobs cannot be guaranteed beyond the short term.

A senior Spike executive has refuted the rumours of an imminent closure, and denied there are plans for layoffs.

-Rumours are just that: rumours," Spike communications strategist Tim Mendham told ZDNet Australia. -Our doors are open on Monday. I was just at a meeting where we were planning our next hundred days."

Trading in shares of Spike Networks was halted today pending the release of a company announcement, which is expected early next week.
