Sold.com.au talks up -biggest ever" IT sell-off

Sold.com.au is touting its upcoming -Big Brand" sale as the biggest ever computer and electronic auction Australia has ever seen, in the hope of attracting a flurry of spending from punters looking to pick up an end of the financial year IT bargain.

The auction has already got 7000 items in the bag ready to be flogged off and is scheduled to kick off May 27, running through until June 11 with new items being added to its online sale shelves daily.

-We started organising this about two months ago...we're calling it the Big Brand sale," Yahoo business development manager Mark Robberds told ZDNet Australia. -The event is running across our four biggest categories; computers and IT, mobile phones, consumer electronics and photographics, and games and software."

Sold.com.au already has about 15 sellers waiting in the wings, ready to flog off top-notch gear, including; IBM distributor Cost Plus Computers; Factory And Out, which sells the Arlec brand; Ingram Micro; Frank Vaughan Electronics; Computersource and Paleo Graphicf, which sells Apple goods. Other brands include Dell, HP, Sony, Lexmark, Cannon, Toshiba, Philips, Compaq, and Sony Playstation, and equipment such as scanners, digital cameras, lap tops, monitors, notebooks, photocopiers, software, mobile phones and PDAs will fall under the hammer.

-We do survey our members on sold.com.au and by far the biggest factor in decision making was brand," according to Robberds. A recent survey, he said, showed that 53 percent of online purchasers said brand was the most important thing to them when buying from an online auction. Thirty-five percent of punters said it was price.

According to Robberds, the success of a similar event with Yahoo Shopping in the US combined with it's own success in running similar events over the past 18 months to two years, are the inspiration behind this latest auction.

-We get a lot of good stock and at good prices," Robberds said, adding that sold.com.au has negotiated with every supplier for bidding for items across all brands to start AU$1.

The online auctioneer is hoping to attract resellers, Net savvy buyers who know the value of products and go in looking for a good deal, and businesses. -We've timed it for the end of the financial year quite purposefully," Robberds said.
