Hoffman couldn't immediately comment on the appointment today, but the executive has already started working in Rudd's Canberra-based Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. Hoffman's LinkedIn profile lists his position as "executive coordinator, strategic policy and implementation".

Hoffman left ninemsn, the joint venture between Nine and Microsoft, from 2003 until mid-way through 2006, taking the CEO post with mobile social networking firm Loop Mobile afterwards. He resigned from Loop on 22 July 2008.
