Qld premier's speech to ICT industry: Video

Last Wednesday, Premier Bligh addressed Queenland's ICT industry at an Australian Computer Society and Australian Information Industry Association luncheon.

Bligh spoke to the industry about its contribution to the state's progress, but also laid out a new information technology strategy for ICT in government.

The new strategy is a five-year plan that sets priorities for action in four key focus areas: accessible government (engaging with Queenslanders through ICT), efficient government (one government approach to service delivery and information access), effective government (providing more online front-line services) and strong industry/government partnerships (developing a relationship that will lead to seeking input in pre-planning for projects).

Targets have been set to deliver the strategy, such as doubling the number of online services provided in three years, and giving the state government CIO power to veto agency projects.

"ICT is clearly one of the foundation stones on which we need to build our future prosperity," Bligh said. "I look forward to working with the industry to implement this strategy."

The premier also talked about a strategy to support innovation within the state, working on six themes: growing industry in a low carbon world, sustaining and creating employment, research and development, internationalising Queensland's ICT industry, driving business growth, and regional industry development.
