The IT support operation of Australia's largest airline Qantas could be in for a shake-up following the revelation yesterday that the group's chief financial officer Peter Gregg will leave his position at the end of September.

While Qantas has a dedicated chief information officer, Jamila Gordon, who stepped on board in September last year, Gregg has played a strong role in the airlines' technology purchasing strategy, ranging back over the past few years.
Gregg is Gordon's immediate superior, and also oversaw the work of previous acting CIO John Willett and Fiona Balfour, Qantas' previous permanent CIO. Gregg had been Qantas CFO since September 2000.
Although Gordon met reporters for the first time earlier this year, she did so accompanied by Gregg, and in general it has been the CFO in recent times who has outlined most of the group's technology strategy and recent moves to the press, especially in relation to major initiatives such as outsourcing moves and Qantas' large eQ business systems revamp.
Gregg will be succeeded by his deputy Colin Storrie, who has 10 years of experience in senior financial roles at Qantas.
