PeopleSoft, one of the giant ERP developers pushing its way into the e-commerce arena, is now distributing PeopleSoft 8, an upgraded and completely Internet-enabled version of its flagship enterprise suite.

PeopleSoft 8 is a browser-based offering that officials say makes their ERP (enterprise resource planning) software easy to use and deploy. Customers who access the package via a Web browser do not have to install software.

The software now being distributed includes PeopleSoft Supply Chain Management, PeopleSoft Human Resources Management and PeopleSoft Financials.

The company has started shipping 60 new collaborative applications for CRM (customer relationship management), employee management and supply chain management.

A 'new' PeopleSoft

PeopleSoft formally launched its upgraded suite in July, announcing it had developed the 60 new products for the package. Those included sales force automation and mobile applications.

At the same time, CEO Craig Conway also spoke about a new, more aggressive PeopleSoft that will take the battle up to its competitors, including Oracle, Siebel Systems and SAP AG.

The company, like other ERP software providers, has stumbled over the past couple of years with year 2000 remediation and the onset of B2B e-commerce. But it has regained its footing lately, and in July PeopleSoft announced second-quarter revenues that narrowly beat Wall Street forecasts.
