-At the moment we don't have details on country by country," Nokia Networks financial controller for Australia and New Zealand Neil Gordon told ZDNet Australia. -It's early days...we expect the reductions to have taken place by the end of the year."
Last night Nokia announced it would cut 900 jobs from its network division, almost five percent of its worldwide workforce. In a statement, Nokia said the move was to align the organisation to the current business environment, and job losses would vary from a few employees in most countries to around one hundred in some larger countries.
-It depends on the size of the operation," said Gordon. -Some of our European markets, and places like China, are huge. The market in Australia is smaller than it is in other parts of the world."
Gordon said Nokia does not reveal staffing levels in individual companies, or the performance of Nokia in individual countries.
