NCR banks on outsourced ATM networks in Asia-Pacific

NCR hopes to increase revenue in Australia and New Zealand by US$40 million over three years following the establishment of its Centre of Expertise for ATMs this year, which manages the ATM network for a -significant bank", two smaller ATM deployers in Australia and ten in Asia.

-At NCR we can cover the full spectrum of services to the ATM network," John Elsworth, director, Centre of Expertise, ATM Channel Management, South Pacific Area told ZDNet Australia. -We can either take the whole ATM network, or do selected components of the network."

-We are currently number one in hardware and software in the ATM market," Elsworth added. -Our competition is going to be very aggressive from here on in, and we're determined not to let them undermine our position."

According to Elsworth, banks have taken simple steps to reduce costs such as outsourcing their IT operations and many of their back-end operations, such as cheque processing. They are now looking at other ways to improve efficiency, and want to lower costs, focus on their key business and leverage specialisation.

-There is no one solution across the market, so we need to be flexible to provide customised solutions," he added.

The Centre of Expertise is a group of specialists, according to Elsworth. -We are specialists in two ways. People have joined the team who are experts in the solutions we bring to market, and we have former bankers with collectively 60 years of experience, so we can tailor solutions for the banking markets."
