NAB won't confirm virus attack

National Australia Bank said it cannot confirm that a day-long disruption to its telephone and Internet banking services is due to the recent Nimda virus onslaught.

The bank, with over 46,000 online customers, has been suffering system difficulties to its phone and online services since about 8.30am and can give no estimated time by which services will be fully restored.

"I can't confirm it's a particular virus problem," NAB spokesperson Brandon Phillips told ZDNet Australia. But -we believe there are no problems with customer records," he added.

Phillips claims that there have been -a range of disruptions...not one particular thing at any particular time" throughout the day and confirmed that telephone and Internet banking have been unavailable for most of that time.

"We haven't been able to identify the source of the problem, but we're working hard so we can get these things back in shape," Phillips said.
