Late last month Melbourne University agreed to preserve a copy of files on its network until a judgement was made in the nation's Federal Court as to whether the files should be handed over to the industry for investigation.
However, Michael Speck, the managing director of Music Industry Piracy Investigations (MIPI), the company which investigates possible piracy on behalf of the industry, told ZDNet Australia the music companies were not sure whether Melbourne University had made a copy of files on its network or not.
The longer it is left before a copy is made, the more potential evidence could be lost, according to Speck.

How much money could the music industry have lost to university students? They hardly have a couple of coins to rub together to buy food, let alone music! This is yet another case of the bullying tactics used by the corporate world on a group which have no chance of defending themselves effectively in court.
