Jobs Web-site company Monster has ceased trading in Australia and New Zealand -- the company today announced it would close its doors immediately.

Craig Kennedy, Monster Asia-Pacific's group president, said the company will now focus on markets where the brand is performing well.

"The decision to close Monster's Australian and New Zealand operations was made after much deliberation. Our focus continues to be in those global markets where Monster is the premier recruitment Web site," he said in a statement.

Monster.com.au, a joint venture with NineMSN, had been losing AU$6 million a year. Around 40 jobs will go, but industry insiders have told ZDNet Australia their entitlements will be paid in full.
