Macquarie Uni sends IT students into the field

Macquarie University has joined forces with four leading IT companies to provide an industry sponsored IT cadetship program for its IT graduates.

The year-long program, offered for the first time in 2002, allows IT graduates to work within the University's IT Services Unit for 12 months. During this year they will also spend up to three months working with their respective industry sponsors.

The four industry sponsors this year are Sun Microsystems, Cisco Systems, Novell and Compuware.

-The partnership between education and business needs to be a partnership working towards the same goal," said Brenda Garrard-Foster, campus operations manager at Cicso.

Cadets can also undertake an honours year concurrently with the cadetship.

-Those cadets who choose, and are accepted, to complete an honours year will be given the chance to do so over a two-year period, carrying out the practical aspects of their studies during the cadetship," said Brian Kissell, director of IT services at Macquarie University.
