Kaz wins AU$20 million Defence contract

An AU$20 million Australian Defence contract has been awarded to local IT outsourcer, Kaz Technology Services.

Kaz Technology Services will develop an improved data management system to monitor the maintenance and inventory needs of all Defence maritime vessels, including the ANZAC and FFG (frigates), the minehunters and the landing platform amphibious ships.

"The contract will lead to increased accuracy and quality of the current maintenance reports that Defence receives," said Defence Minister Robert Hill. "These relate to combat, weapons, radar, sonar and propulsion (engine) systems, and naval shore communication systems across Australia."

Kaz Technology Services - which won the contract as part of a competitive tender process - foreshadowed the contract in its annual report, saying that Australian government agencies were beginning to look beyond multinational outsourcers for their IT projects.

"The new data management system expands on gains made in recent years, such as computerised maintenance management systems and configuration management systems for the minehunters and the ANZACs," said Hill.
