An Ernst & Young spokesperson could not provide a breakdown of what parts of the company the job cuts would be made in, or whether IT staff would be among those culled.
The redundancies are part of a realignment process following the absorption of Andersen Australia into the company in May, according to a statement.
Most of the roles lost would be from the Sydney and Melbourne regions and would mainly be in administrative and practice support areas, it was revealed.
In late May, Ernst & Young announced it was starting to embark on the huge task of integrating the IT systems of Andersen Australia into the firm.
