IBM Global Services Australia will spend AU$23 million on an Australian centre that will allow Big Blue to tackle ERP, CRM, supply chain management and business intelligence projects for customers here and overseas.
The e-business facility and laboratories will be based in Pyrmont, Sydney and be operational by year end. IBM has not yet finalised an exact location.
It will offer the local market total of 490 jobs over five years. About 340 of these positions will be filled outside the ranks of IBM GS current staff.
IBM's investment, over three years, pays for the technology and communications infrastructure. Meanwhile, the Federal and New South Wales state governments have jointly promised some as-yet-undefined assistance in training, according to a statement.
It is expected jobs created by the centre will include positions for Java programmers, database architects, middleware architects, information designers, marketing experts, graphics designers, project managers and various consultants.
The centre's labs are expected to be used for research in the areas of security and network services. "We are building a centre where technology and innovation can spring from each other, delivering results to customers, employees and partners through virtual networks and face-to-face engagements throughout Australia and across the region," IBM Global Services Australia and New Zealand CEO Colleen Arnold, said in an official statement.
