Meiosys is based in Toulouse, France, and Palo Alto, California. The company's product, called MetaCluster, will be built into IBM's Unix and Linux high-performance server lines by the end of the year, IBM said. MetaCluster takes a "snapshot" of a computing job, such as a transaction, and moves it to a backup system, which may be running on a different processor, when there is an application problem.
"This acquisition gives IBM the ability to provide even more innovative capabilities for Unix and Linux, and will help advance our information on demand strategy and virtualisation capabilities for clients," Rod Adkins, vice president of development for IBM's Systems and Technology Group, said in a statement.
