IBM + Intel = ASP enablement

In partnership with Intel, IBM announced it is expanding the Linux and NUMA planks of ASP Prime and will offer a new, free online self-assessment program for all ISVs interested in joining the IBM program for ASP-enablement.

Intel will contribute both financial funding and consulting resources to the latest Linux and NUMA offerings, according to Jill Kanatzar, manager of ASP Prime. In addition, Intel will use elements of the new ASP Prime Online that are related to Intel-based platforms such as Linux, Microsoft Windows, NUMA, and Netfinity.

IBM's new ASP Prime Online starts with a self-assessment form to help ISVs determine if they are ready for hands-on application enablement at one of IBM's ASP Prime Solution Centers.

"ISVs really need to be at a certain level in order for their participation to make sense for either themselves or IBM," Kanatzar says. "Have they Web-enabled their applications yet? Have they given thought to demand generation and target geographic markets? The assessment gives them immediate feedback."

After filling out the self-assessment form online, qualified ISVs will get an invitation to take part in ASP Prime at one of IBM's Solutions Centers. Those who complete the questionnaire are also eligible for free "post-consultation recommendations" from IBM.

Expansion of the ASP Prime Program also includes construction of a new competency center for IBM NUMA systems at IBM's Solution Centre in Hursley, UK, Kanatzar says.

On the Linux side, IBM is now beefing up ASP Prime by adding support at all its Solutions Centers for testing Linux-based applications in WebSphere and open source Web environments, as well as for hosting non-Web-enabled applications from organisations such as Tarantella.

During a recent press tour of its ASP Prime Solution Centre, IBM officials said there are now ASP Solution Centres in ten locations worldwide, including Waltham; Hursley; Rochester, Minnesota; Beaverton, Oregon; San Mateo, California; Sydney, Australia; Paris, France; Stuttgart, Germany and Seoul, Korea.
