IBM GSA axes 400 Aussie jobs

IBM has confirmed that 400 employees from IBM GSA will have to find redeployment as their positions are terminated.

-We can confirm there are 400 people on redeployment," IBM GSA spokesperson Pilar Martin told ZDNet Australia. -Fifty of those people have already found redeployment opportunities within the company. I just looked at the noticeboard and as of today there are over 150 jobs available," she added.

Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) representative Stephen Jones confirmed the numbers are consistent with those raised in discussions yesterday evening. -Our hope and desire is that we can redeploy people into all if not the majority of those positions," he said.

-There's some more work that needs to be done before we are satisfied, but they're heading in the right direction."

Martin added: -From IBM's point of view we've come to a position where we always try to help people find new opportunities and reduce the impact, and we feel we've achieved that."
