in brief Hewlett-Packard has flagged plans to dump the well-known EDS brand following its acquisition of the company last year.

The merged services and outsourcing operation of HP and EDS will now be re-badged as HP Enterprise Services. In addition, HP's existing Technology Solutions Group will be renamed the "HP Enterprise Business". This group includes the services business.

The HP Enterprise Business represents a large portion of the total company's operation; HP said that during the third quarter of the 2009 financial year, it accounted for 47 per cent of the company's revenue and 60 per cent of operating profits.

The merged company could not comment immediately on what the implications would be for HP and EDS's Australian operations.
