Govt agency denies unauthorised inmate Net access

Officials have denied an inmate at a NSW prison could have used contraband computer equipment to access the Internet.

A spokesperson for the NSW Department of Corrective Services confirmed that two floppy disks and a CD which came with a magazine were confiscated from an inmate at a prison in Lithgow.

Media reports have suggested that the computer disks included an Internet program. However, the spokesperson denied that the inmate would have been able to access the Internet.

-Inmates are allowed to use PCs under the supervision of prison teachers," the spokesperson said. -But no one had any access to the Internet for very obvious reasons."
