Philop Barnes, Web manager for the DCITA site, told ZDNet Australia that he had identified a bug affecting the Department's Media Centre page on Monday, but was unable to fix it because the project had been outsourced to Fujitsu.
Kim Ulrick, corporate communications for DCITA, denied this boded ill for the outsourcing of government IT. -I wouldn't say it was a case of outsourcing gone wrong," she said.
The Media Centre page , designed to provide recent information on government IT strategy and policies, has instead been displaying old content as a result of the glitch, Barnes said.
-There's a bit of a bug with the site," he explained. -The media centre is organised by the last updated date [on the documents], rather than the published date. Unfortunately we outsourced the project. We've notified the outsourcers [Fujitsu] and hopefully they'll fix it."
Fujitsu Australia failed to respond to requests for comment by press time.
As an interim measure, DCITA staff regularly run a script to fix the problem, and Ulrick said the incorrect information should only appear briefly. She said Fujitsu host and maintain the site, and the DCITA hopes Fujitsu will solve the problem in the next few days.
