Texan IT services giant Electronic Data Systems (EDS) has won a five-year, AU$25 million IT outsourcing deal with Chandler Macleod to provide back-end processing services that will support the recruitment firm's Department of Defence recruitment drive in the coming years.
The deal will see EDS supply IT services to a consortium of companies that last month won an AU$405 million contract to supply 11,000 new recruits to Defence over five years. The consortium includes Chandler Macleod, Daemon, and Corporate Health Group. EDS will supply services to the group for the life of the five-year recruitment contract, which commences 1 February, 2009.
EDS will provide data centre, desktop support, applications development and management services.
Allan Bennet, head of EDS's government and defence industry group, said at a media briefing in April that EDS had won "small strategic consultancies" with Defence and that it would focus on logistics and back-office processing work with the department.
