Demand for Aust IT execs plummets

The 15-month decline in demand for Australian IT executives continues, with experts predicting little hope of recovery in coming months.

The E.L Executive Demand Index has found that demand for executives in the IT sector dropped a further eight percent during February.

The drop focussed in the NSW and Victoria public sectors for the second consecutive month. In February IT recorded the strongest loss in the sectors measured by E.L Consult for its index.

-It's just that it's over-corrected itself quite considerably," Montgomery said. -I certainly expect it to get back to 10 percent, but I don't ever expect it to get back to 25 percent in the current crystal ball."

Montgomery said that some people were predicting that biotechnology would have a positive impact on the IT sector. However, he doesn't believe biotech will be as big a user of IT executive talent as the new economy was.
