Deadline looms for local Asia Online customers

Customers caught up in Asia Online's sudden withdrawal from the Australian market have just one day left to change their service provider, according to ISP OzEmail.

In accordance with an agreement hammered out with departing Asia Online management, OzEmail is offering Asia Online's customers the opportunity transfer their service without effecting their email address, or incurring any registration fees.

However, the deadline for the transfer is set to fall today, after which time Asia Online service will be terminated.

Asia Online dial-up customers, semi and permanent modem users, and Web hosting clients can take advantage of OzEmail offer via the company Web site.

While the Ozemail spokesperson said substantial numbers of Asia Online customers had taken up the offer of a free transfer, the company is concerned some may not be aware of Asia Online's predicament.

"Some people simply don't access their email very regularly, or may have been away," the spokesperson said.

Asia Online representatives were not available for comment at press time.
