DaimlerChrysler outsources IT

DaimlerChrysler Australia has outsourced the management of its core business IT infrastructure to Hewlett Packard (HP)'s Australian operations.

The multi-million dollar contract encompasses desktop and server operations as well as support of back-office communications, including PABX and help-desk operations.

"As a result, [DaimlerChrysler's] operations will be optimised to best manage applications such as those used for vehicle logistics and tracking, treasury, accounting and administration," the companies said in a statement.

HP said it won the deal in a bidding process involving four other companies.

DaimlerChrysler's senior manager IT services, Frank Sassone, told ZDNet Australia   the deal would run initially for three years, with two one-year options to follow.

Sassone said the company had issued an RFP last year and had opted to undertake another outsourcing deal after spending three years with another provider.
