Compaq, Tivoli ride storage wave together

PC maker Compaq has tightened its relationship with IBM-owned Tivoli Systems as the companies attempt to bolster their positions in the open storage market.

Compaq will now use Tivoli products for the backup, recovery and data management of its Enterprise Backup Solution offering, the companies said in a joint statement.

The partnership will see Compaq's Fibre Channel data protection offering bundled with Tivoli Storage Manager v.4.1.1. The Tivoli product offers automated network backup, tape resource sharing, network-free -differencing" technology, the statement read. The companies claim those functions will reduce bottlenecks for mobile network users.

The products will be available by the end of Q1 2001, the companies said.
