Commonwealth Bank officially announces online upgrade plans

The Commonwealth Bank has announced a consortium of companies will be involved in upgrading its online banking service.

The new service is due for launch in the second half of 2004, and the project will be collaboration between IBM Business Consulting Services, Eontec and EDS Australia.

"Our online customer base and transaction activity continue to grow rapidly and this upgrade will provide the increased capacity to support future customer growth and will also expand the range of services available online," said Hugh Harley, the Commonwealth Bank's Group Executive of Retail Banking Services. When contacted by ZDNet Australia  , the bank was unwilling to expand on exactly how the changes would benefit customers, or how much the upgrade would cost.

Eontec will provide the online banking product, which will be integrated and supported by IBM Business Consulting Services.

"We have worked closely with IBM Business Consulting Services and the Commonwealth Bank to ensure our online banking module of our multichannel banking software product will satisfy the current future needs of the Bank's online banking customer base," said Eontec Managing Director for Japan and Asia Pacific, David Jones.

EDS Australia will provide the infrastructure, develop linkages to other Bank systems and operate the online banking service on an ongoing basis.
