in brief Software and services giant CA has appointed an insider to replace its former Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) managing director Tony Armfield, who resigned from the role in October.

In a statement issued this morning, CA said that its Asia south area manager Brenton Smith, who has also held the position of sales vice president in Australia, would replace Armfield as ANZ vice president and area manager of the company's Pacific region.

Smith has also held the post of managing director at Business Objects Australia, leading the firm through its merger with Crystal Decisions, as well as senior posts at Siebel, SAP and SAP consultancy BrightStar.

What this article fails to highlight is Mr Smith, CA's most successful Area Managing Director at the time was retrenched in March when CA decided to close the Sth East Asia direct business and went cap in hand to bring him back after Mr Armfield resigned.

Thanks for the information, we'll ask CA what the situation is.

    Cheers,

Business Objects After Brenton Anonymous -- 25/03/09

I dont know how one of the CA direct sales managers leaves CA and then moves from company to company and then Comes back to CA a decade later to say that he is capable of leading some of the people he reported to. He may be respected through his diversified sales relationships but having looked at how the company is run (not what sales they are making) has not exactly been all roses for this guy. After he left Business Objects, there was a huge review of the illegal behaviour that grew during his tenure and wasnt managed sucessfully. I can only hope that Brenton has learned from his mistakes with his previous employers and is using this knowledge to help CA and not be ignorant to the trouble he had created.
