Brambles creates CIO role

Logistics giant Brambles has announced it is appointing Jim Infinger to the newly created position of chief information officer.

A spokesperson for the company said the creation of the new role reflected the importance of IT systems and the need to have someone coordinating them across the 45 countries in which Brambles operated.

Infinger has had his fingers in many IT pies, holding CIO roles for Raytheon and CompUSA, as well as holding a position on the advisory boards of Oracle, HP, SAP, Microsoft, AT&T and Cisco. He has also spent time at Siemens Nixdorf, ICL Fujitsu and Wal-Mart.

Infinger will report to Tom Gorman, who is succeeding current CEO Mike Ihlein on 1 November.

"Jim's extensive experience of information systems, strong commercial orientation and customer focus will be of great benefit to Brambles," Gordon said in a statement. "I am impressed with his energy, strategic thinking and his perspective on how information systems can really help our businesses address customer needs."
